Humanities Event Kinetic Art movement Essay - 525 Words

Never in my life was I exposed to vast knowledge of different form of arts. I loved music and everything about it, but it wasn’t until I took Humanities class that I started appreciating movies from different cultures, literatures, and even arts and sculptures from different period and era. I decided to get out my comfort zone and make a trip to Museum of Fine Arts, Houston to explore and appreciated arts and sculptures from different part of the world. After purchasing my ticket I first encountered arts of Jesus Rafael Soto. Best known figure of the Kinetic Art movement. I spent a minute or two trying to study his 1961 Barroco Negro (Baroque in Black) and 1956 Kinetic Structure of Geometric Elements. To my dismay I was unable to†¦show more content†¦One huge wall piece caught my attention. This was yet another piece of creativity by Subodh Gupta. Subodh Gupta took simple stainless steel items such as pots, plates, glasses, tins, utensils, tiffin and several other pie ces and joined it all together creating a huge semi-circle shaped art. Also in the area I saw several sculptures of God, Goddess, Jewelry and Wedding Jewelry. To mention a few were the sculptures of the Buddha, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, Sarasvati and Siddhi. Finally, I made my way on the second floor where the museum displayed arts and sculptures for Africa. I did not spend much time reading history, rather I slowly walked across the display. I saw linguist staffs and staff tops, shot guns and cartridge belt, sword and executioner’s knives and women’s jewelry. Also, on display were figurines similar to Venus of Willendorf. They were about 4-5 inches tall, and they were about mother nursing a child. These figurines were in sitting position and breast of these women were â€Å"exaggerated.† Although, there was one female figurine in a standing position in which â€Å"exaggerated† body part was prominent. I have to admit that for a layman like me who lacks cr eativity it was too much information to process, but it was worth it. It gave me a different perspective of ancient arts and sculptures from around the world.
